10 ways to get in shape using minimal effort!

We get it! It's hard to find the energy to go to the gym as well as attending University, socilising with friends, drinking and all the rest of it. There are however, some good ways of getting in shape with using as minimal effort as possible.

We've put together our top 10 tips below to help you get in shape.

1) Drink Water.

Our bodies often confuse thirst with hunger. Next time you feel the urge to eat drink a big glass of water and see if this cures your hunger. If you're still hungry in 10 minutes or so then it's definitely time to prepare a meal.

2) HOLD UP! Wait 10 minutes.

Apparently the hunger feeling averagely lasts 10 minutes. When you initially feel the need to eat (this sometimes comes with boredom) wait 10 minutes and see if the feeling is still there.

3) Make simple but better choices.

- Trade your classic crust pepperoni pizza for a thin crust vegetarian pizza.

- Prepare your own lunch rather than buying a meal deal from your local supermarket.

4) Use a smaller plate.

For most of us our eyes are bigger than our belly, if you use a slightly smaller plate you can cut your meals down in size ever so slightly to avoid over eating.

5) Get off your back side!

Sitting down for long periods of time is a killer. It’s known that a sedentary way of life can slow down one's metabolism. It’s an easy fix - if you're at home revising have a coffee and walk up and down the stairs a few times. We should aim to spend a minimum of 2 hours per day standing up.

Little fact - on average we burn 100 calories whilst sitting down & 140 calories an hour standing up

6) Put down the carbonated drinks.

A can of coke contains 9 1/3 grams of sugar. Try an herbal tea or a glass of water instead.

7) Side door the snacking.

When you're out and about on the move sometimes it’s hard to manage eating proper meals and we have to snack. If you know you have a long day prepare some healthy snacks like carrot & humus or a couple of crackers for healthy energy.

8) One word... Cardio!

Cardio is the most effective way of burning fat as it activates the most muscles in your body.

9) Eat like a king for breakfast

Have a nice big portion of porridge in the mornings, this kick starts your metabolism well and releases energy slowly meaning your hunger holds back for longer and helps you you’re your mid-morning snacking.

10) Take 10.

Practising 10 minutes of simple yoga stretches in the morning awakens & energises the body. Not only is this good for your body but it can de-stress the mind preparing you for an awesome day!
