Returning to Uni

Returning To Uni After a Long Summer Break.

As you roll out of bed, rubbing your blood shot eyes peering through those dusty blinds, the strong glow of autumn sun hits you like a wet kipper!  Slap….the summer is well and truly over. Lazy days around the pool and no sleep at “whatever” music festival are a distant memory. Chop chop, its back to uni!

As much as going back to study is never as fun as when you were a fresher, we at Condor Properties have lots of helpful advice to get you geared up for autumn 2015.

Bags packed, ready to go?

Whether you are staying put with all your mates in the same property as last year or moving to a new pad, many students do take personal possessions back home for the summer period. Before you leave the family home, it’s worth making sure you take all the essentials back with you. Leaving important memory devices behind and forgetting a research assignment could be costly to post or deliver so it’s worth making a check list before you leave. But if you do forget something, C’est la Vie! Try MyHermes delivery service. These guys are much cheaper and just as reliable as the RM.

Raid the cupboards! Your folks won’t notice the odd missing toilet roll/ tin of beans.

Don’t refuse, reuse!

You have spent all your wages on a holiday and you’re skint beyond belief.  The annual “stationary shopping trip” isn’t going to happen and you are in need of books, pens and writing pads. #takestheBic !!!

1.      Ask a female friend if she has any old stationary left over from last year that you can nab. Girls are known for liking fancy pens and stationary and never using them! You may not like “Hello Kitty” and all things fluffy, but it’s free and you’re not in the position to argue.

2.      Speak to the Uni. A lot of faculties in Universities across the UK are running “sustainable stationary” programs, encouraging staff and students alike to donate unwanted stationary for use the following year to reduce their carbon footprint and be seen as “green”.

3.      Get your family to send you a “penNpaper” parcel with old pens from the back of the sofa and paper from the family printer. No harm in asking and at least you know where it has come from (unlike the pens donated from lost property!).

Dress to impress!

Autumnal colours combined with 60’s chic is big in the world of fashion this year. If you want to look like you have just rolled out of Harvey Nics but have the bank balance of a….well, student, try charity shops and vintage boutiques. Alternatively, ask parents and grandparents if they have any “classic” clobber they could lend/ give you. This will give you massive Kudos with your folks as they think you are taking an interest in their “past” and in return, you are getting trendy threads for nothing!

Duvet care?

Recent research shows that many students living away from home wash their duvet covers on average 0.3 times during a 3 year course. Many claim it’s hard to wash/ dry large items in shared accommodation. So, with sheets becoming sweatier and smellier, do your fellow house mates care about the stench coming from you room? We put the question to some past and present tenants. Interestingly, 68 % do care about their bedding smelling but would chose to either throw it away or just sleep at a friend’s place. 32% said they couldn’t care less and couldn’t smell anything. But if you fancy some new home gear then check out unikitout.com for some great offers on bedding - 10% off with discount code CONDOR15.
